Why Does My Child Struggle to Answer Questions?

Description

If your child understands what you say but struggles to answer questions, there may be more happening than simple shyness or inattention. Answering requires several skills, including understanding the question, remembering information, finding the right words, organising thoughts, and expressing an appropriate response. Children may find open-ended “who,” “what,” “where,” “when,” or “why” questions particularly challenging. At Total Communication, we look beyond the answer itself to understand the underlying communication, language, attention, memory, and thinking skills involved. With the right support, children can develop stronger communication skills and greater confidence when answering questions at home, school, and socially.
