Villas in Marrakech: How to Choose One and Build In the Spa Days
Description
A private villa is the most flexible way to stay in Marrakech, particularly for groups, celebrations and longer trips. You get space, a pool, and usually a small team of staff. The trade-off is distance from the Medina, so choosing the right area and asking the right questions matters more than picking the prettiest photos.
This guide explains how to choose a villa, what to ask before you book, and how to build spas and hammams into the stay so it is not just parties and dinners.
Villa, riad or hotel?
- Villa: private pool and gardens, room for large groups, staff on site, and more control over your schedule. Usually outside the Medina, so you will rely on drivers.
- Riad: an atmospheric house around a courtyard in the Medina. Charming, but lanes are narrow, vehicle access is limited and space is smaller.
- Hotel: the simplest option, with services on tap, but less privacy and less flexibility for groups.
Choosing the area
Where the villa sits shapes every day of your trip.
- The Palmeraie: palm groves and quiet, with generous gardens. Typically a drive of around 15 to 25 minutes from the centre.
- Ourika, Amizmiz, Ouarzazate and Fez roads: countryside settings with mountain views and more space, but longer journeys into town.
- Close to the city centre: the easiest option for restaurants, clubs and shopping, with less land around the villa.
If your plans centre on dinners and clubs in Hivernage and Gueliz, a closer villa saves time. If you want a retreat with big gardens and quiet, the Palmeraie or the countryside roads suit better. Either way, a reliable driver matters, and staffed villas often arrange one.
What a staffed villa usually includes
Villas vary, so ask exactly what is included, but staffed villas commonly come with daily housekeeping, a chef, security and access to a driver. Our luxury villas page lists the properties we work with, and our post on Marrakech’s most luxurious villas shows what the top end looks like.
Which villa for which group
- Couples: a smaller villa or a quieter road, with a chef for private dinners and a spa session booked mid-stay.
- Families: look closely at the pool. Ask about fencing, depth and shallow areas, and check bedroom layouts so children are close by.
- Friends and celebrations: prioritise en-suite bedrooms, indoor and outdoor social space, and clear house rules on music and visitors. A closer location makes late nights easier.
Questions to ask before you book a villa
- How many people does it sleep, and what are the bed and bathroom arrangements?
- Is the pool heated, and is that included in winter?
- What are the rules on music, visitors and events? This matters for celebrations.
- How far is it from restaurants and clubs, and how long does the drive take at night?
- Which staff are included, what hours do they work, and what costs extra?
- Is there air conditioning for summer and heating for winter evenings?
- Are airport transfers, deposits and cancellation terms clear?
Spas in Marrakech: the main options
Marrakech has a long tradition of bathing and wellbeing, and there is a spa format for most tastes. Our spas page shows what we can arrange.
- Traditional hammam: a steam room followed by a scrub with black soap and a kessa glove, often with rhassoul clay and an argan-oil massage. The most authentic experience.
- Hotel spas: treatment rooms, pools and quiet relaxation areas in a polished setting.
- Riad and day spas: smaller, intimate spas, often in the Medina.
- In-villa treatments: therapists can often come to the villa, which is convenient after a late night or a pool day. Ask when you book.

What to expect at a hammam
- Modesty: most spas provide disposable underwear or expect swimwear bottoms. Private and communal options exist, so ask.
- The scrub is vigorous. It is meant to be, and your skin will feel very smooth afterwards.
- Timing: avoid a heavy meal beforehand, drink water afterwards, and go easy on alcohol either side.
- Health: if you are pregnant or have a condition such as high blood pressure, check with the spa and your doctor first.
When to go
Summer is very hot, so a pool and air conditioning are essential. Winter days are mild but evenings are cold, so ask about heating and a heated pool. Spring and autumn are often the sweet spot for comfort. A spa day works in any season and is a good recovery plan after a big night.
A balanced four-night rhythm
- Night one: arrive, settle in and have a relaxed dinner, ideally with the villa chef.
- Day two: a pool club or villa pool day (day parties and pool parties guide), then dinner out (restaurant guide).
- Day three: a slow morning and a hammam or spa session, then an early dinner.
- Night four: the big night out (nightlife guide).

Frequently asked questions
Should I choose a villa or a riad?
Choose a villa for groups, pools and staff. Choose a riad for Medina atmosphere in a smaller space.
Are staff included in the villa?
Staffed villas commonly include housekeeping, a chef and security, but inclusions vary, so ask what is included and what costs extra.
Can I book spa treatments at the villa?
Often, yes. Many villas can arrange in-villa treatments, and we can also book hammams and spas around the city.
How far are the villas from town?
Palmeraie villas are typically 15 to 25 minutes from the centre by car. Countryside villas can be longer.
Can you arrange restaurants and nightlife from the villa?
Yes. We can book tables, guest lists and drivers so the villa is your base for dinners, clubs and pool days.
